noob Q - phono plugs

could someone tell me how to hook these up.. (**EDIT**)the other end.. the female part to a porty screen

on the inside, they have two metal pieces.. one longer than the other.. each has a hole along it??.. do i solder a wire to it??.. wrap the wire into the hole or am i completely off??

its for a universal hipgear screen..

It plugs into a Red Socket on AV on a TV, you get composite video, and the two audio (L & R), it looks to me like one of those.

i meant the other end (the female part).. im connecthing wires to the inside..

It doesnt matter how you get them connected, solder, twist them on... crimp them.. whatever. If its just a temporary cable, I twist them. If its a perminent cable, i solder them. When you connect the wires, make sure they dont cross. All you have to know is the center is called the Signal, and the outer ring is called the Ground. When you hook something up to it (video or audio) usually the bare wire is ground (the lil ring thingie) and the signal is the wire with a color on it (red white or yellow) is the signal. All the ground wires are usually tied together. Ground is the batterys black wire, also known as Negitive.

If it's the signal you're asking about, The inner lead is almost always the signal wire, while the outer ring is usually the ground.

so for instance.. the red wire im about to connect for audio right (i think) would plug into the small circle in the center.. and the ground would attach to the long piece?? right?

Ground should be connected to both plugs. Solder two wires along with the ground wire together for a sorta Y joint.

All the ground wires are tied together... you would need to make something like a Y adapter, or something similar. Video and audio all use 1 ground, so what you could do is tie all the grounds in the cable together then lead it into the screen. If you are going to solder them, just find a ground point and solder all of them to that one point. So you would have 3 ground wires going into one of the screens ground points. Twist them all together, then tack them on.
