mame questions

im running mame32 (the gui one) on a 400 mhz machine that uses win xp as an operating system. I'm having some troubles getting mortal combat (the original) to work smoothly. the sound is all choppy and so is the video. Is there something i can do. Do i just need a new machine because i think that a machine that is 100 times faster than the one in the arcade should be able to run it. Should i use an operating system that uses less resources like DOS, or do i just suck. I'm also having trouble with sound on pac man. thanks ahead of time for your help and rock on \m/

I'd say try an os with lower requirements, DOS or Linux would be good probably.

I thin kit also depends on how much memory your PC has.

Which brings my first question. How much memory does the PC have?

they should both work, since they both use the same programs (besides the 64-bit processors, which aren't too common) What really matters is how fast it is and how much RAM you have.

I'd say listin to Gannon, XP is a resorce hog. I've suprised it even ran on 400 mH. Go with DOS, or if you have some knowlege ion linux go with that. With that 400 mH you probibly have only 256 mb ram at max so downgrading is the more economical choice, but upgrading hardware will aloue you to keep XP as the OS.

You definitely need more memory. I can barely get XP to run on a new 2.8Ghz machine with only 128MB RAM!!

Add more memory - that will do the trick.

I assume you mean 128M or RAM, since Windows 3.1 probably wouldn't even work with 128k

I had XP running on a 600mhz, 64mb ram system. It just didnt run well. It would probably run better on 98, or DOS if you wanna go that low.

I think a lot of it has to do with RAM. I have a friend running XP on a 500MHz celeron system with (I believe) 128MB RAM. It runs pretty well, but I don't think he uses many high-power programs with it.
