so that basically you can multiplay one game on two screens, yea, the psp i think can do that, however i just see no way for that to be possible for the n64..., tho ill research it more

Very possible, you just need a jack to send a/v and controller signals, and be able to switch different power things in the console.
If you search the boards you'll learn more on it.

I'd actually recommend something like a dsub-12 <- do they even make them? maybe...
That way you can link the battery packs of the main system and the slave systems for more battery life total :)

You're wrong, it can be done on any console, you just have to put the Video, Cartridge and Controller ports to a cable of some sort, a bit like a GBA Link Cable, I'm going to do it with my Handheld Megadrive

EDIT: Woops, sorry, the Cartridge does not have to be connected to anything I got that wrong. I apologize.

so you are saying i need a cable that contains
Audio left
Audio right
Composite Video
Player 2 Data
Player 3 Data
Player 4 Data
Ground
5 Volts
Controller power (3.3V I think)

and that will link to the n64p

so all 4 players will show up on the two screens?

that will work ....right?

can i run a slave unit like the palm psone?

i guess i dont fully grasp it, i thought he meant that u could multiplay the same game on two consoles at the same time, which despite what u egg heads may think, is jut not possible, and then i just dont see any advantage to having a n64 connect to another?. unless u want to amek ur portable hook up to a box that gives the extra controller ports and a video output of some sort, and if this 'using the same game on two n64's is possible' by all means point it out, otherwise my point stands

That is what he meant. All you need to do is transfer a/v and controller signals to the other units. You can take it a step further and link batteries as well and do a few other switching things to save power.
And, although you say that it's not possible, it's been done many times before so is most definatly possible.

I can't remember who it was, but somebody wanted to do this, and we had a long thread on it. A/V is easy to make wireless, you just need a transmitter and 3 or 4 receivers, and you can buy those for a pretty good price. Controllers are harder, because you need a transmitter and receiver in each slave, because the data line on controllers is bi-directional. Although, I suppose it only sends data to the controller if it wants to send a request, or data for something to the controller slot, in which case, you only need transmitters in the slaves. It is very well possible. It is probably best to have the master unit, and 4 slave controllers, because then all 4 people have the same sized controller.

the N64 has a bi-directional controller. It mght be a little tricky, and a little expensive to build a transiever for the consoles. Why dont you just get a Screen-Controller Combo (like the Hip Gear ones) and rewire it? Or rebuild the screen into an N64 COntroller and just use a 6 wire jack (PS/2, DB-9 Serial, or one of the million thats out there). That woul dbe the easiest, and cheapest soloution.

I understand that, but as an experienced nerd in electronics, take my advice, make it wired. It will be slightly too complex, and a bit costly to make it wireless. Lets do some simple theory here. To get video you can use a 2.4Ghz camera and reciever... not half bad power wise, and the range is good enough. The camera can be removed, and you can use the transmitter. Ive done this. The transmitter i have is 12V at 80mA. The reciever is 9V @ 300mA. Thats going to run at least $80 for the camera/transmitter and $40 for each reciever. For the controllers, there is something called the Lynx Transmitter. Digi-key should sell them. They run in the 400 Mhz band and are designed to transmit seral data. Since the N64 Controllers are 1-wire bi-directional, you will need 2 transmitters, and 2 recievers for each controller. The hard thing to do is how to tell the console and controller to switch between recieve and transmit mode? You will have to spy on the controllers data line and look for the "syn - ack" packets and have some sort of either logic controller, or microcontroller Not to mention the Lynx Transievers only have 2 available freqiences... I think.

There are no radios that can operate on one frquency and do both transmit and receive at the same time, especially for data. You could try and hack apart a gamecube wireless controller. Pelican sells em damn cheap. Still, thats going to run you $40 per controller.

So $120 for the first controller video, + $40 for every other video = $200 just for video... Thats a lil' bit much for something as simple as some soft flexible network cable and a Serial Port connectiors that would probabbly cost $10 at radio shack.

Now, if you want to custom design the whole deal... well, all I can say is "Welcome to hell". Its going to be HARD.

4 Players on 2.5' screens will suck anyways. Its too small to play. You would need to use PSOne screens. A little big, but still fun!

I think im going to do something like this soon. I like this idea.
