I could've sworn the pins were:

1- unregulated

Where "input" is the input, "unregulated" is the amount of power coming out of the batteries, and "regulated" is the power the regulator processes (in the 7805 case, 5V)

but I could be wrong...

It should be labelled with "I G O", over the pins, meaning input(batteries +), ground(batteries -) and output(5V out). You will have to test the adaptor tip to see which wire goes to the inner ring, and which goes to the outer ring. Then you solder the inner ring's wire to the 7805 "O" pin, and the outer ring's wire to the batteries ground. Remember that if you use a 7805, you need atleast 7.2V from your batteries. I don't see why you dont just tape the batteres together, but it is your decission.

that's the product off the website. how would i test which cable is inner/outer? the cable has 2 wires:pink/red and black

Use a multimeter. If you don't have a multimeter, connect the batterys' positive to one of the wires, then connect the positive lead of an LED to the outer ring, and the negative lead to the batterys' negative. If the LED doesn't light up, connect the batterys' positive to the other wire. The LED should light up for one of them, and whichever wire the batteries are connected to when the LED lights up, that wire is for the outer ring.

Go take one of the small lights out of a string of mini chrismas lights. They are 2.5V each, and can be used as an LED.

Project completed! (i made 2, one for psp, one for ds. only difference is the cable.)
