um, people...
discontinued != failed
just because a company stopped making games for a given system does not mean that console failed. It seems as though a failed system would be one that underwent a massive commercial disaster, rather than one that has simply been discontinued.

in light of this:
odyssey^2
game.com
NES top-loader
my pong clones

i am a connoisseur of failed systems.

Among others, I own the following:

Atari Jaguar - bought new in '96 with 10 games for <$50 (wish I had the cd attachment) I almost like Tempest 2000 to portabalize this but who wants to deal with that controller (and the stupid cards you have to slide into it).

Sega CD and 32X (both of which resist portabalizing because of their sheer, unnecessary bulk)

I also have a couple nintendo game 'n' watch things (my Mom got them in the late 80's from Hong Kong) which are apparently worth something but I can't see how as they're boring as hell (and you can get essentially the same thing for free these days in a Happy Steal).

Speaking of failures, when I was a young'n, a friend of mine had a TurboGraphix16 with the CD player thing. Now that was a failure (though the games were pretty good at the time).

Ok... does the Intellivision count? I don't think it had the same cult following as the VCS did. (but mine is full of damned souls. I just know it. I mean, have you SEEN the dealer's eyes in Vegas Blackjack? :shock:)

if it does, i've got one of those too. i didn't list it because i'm not as versed in the sales figures of the late 70's and early 80s systems.

I dont hold high hopes for the DS compared to the PSP (the DS in a competition-less market would be kickin' ass though). But I know the Evolution is going to blow everything away, I can feel it.

heh ok, a NES top loader is not a failure....nintendo re-released the NES as the SNES was out with a better/smaller design to sell off some of the excess stock of NES carts

haha, i wanted to see if i could get it past anyone. in any case, it still didn't do as well as it should have commercially.

...ok, i just want to show off the fact that i have a toploader.
