Tank Project

Post by FDSMAN »

hey you guys, I was looking in my room, bored and I found some of my old plastic army guys, so I had some cardboard layin around and I made a tank with cardboard, tape, hevy duty plastic white bag, and clingwrap for windows, it looks like crap, but i can withstand me throwing it at the wall over and over, than I realized that I could do somthing else (this is where the project idea came in) I found a crappy RC from a thrift store, and I am going to take it apart, use the rc parts and have my self a real tank!, also I might consider super charging it by adding some of my spare motors, maybe buy one of those rc's with a turbo, and use it to speed up in case of a car coming or a small dog, anyway the cam will probly be black and white and will be battery powered, and I might get one of those moniotors that can recive wireless, black and white of corse, so drop in some feed back!

Thats going to be a little costly. I have some wireless cams that run off of 12V @ 80mA. The reciever uses 9V @ 300mA. I use a $20 black and white TV (soon going to be my Verge GC screen) a simple battery pack, and a video reciever to pick up stray signals. Check out x-10 stuff, thats whe crap im using now. Their cams arent that great... and being on the 1.4Ghz band you sometimes get a choppy video feed.

My friend wants me to help him build an actual tank with small ballistic rocket pods and working cannon and turret. If you are intrested in seeing the progress of our project, drop me a PM and ill keep you up to date...

If you wanna ghetto rig thus whole thing:

$40 - Video Reciever
$40 - Camera
$30 - RC Car
$30 - RC Car parts for turret and weapons
$30 - some kind of screen (I would say no less than $50)
$?? - Batteries

Still think its worth it?

use it again so we can understand that.

If you are getting a crappy $5 car, get 2. Scrap one for the transmitter and reciever, just make sure they are on 2 different frequencies.

That does sound really cool and all, but if you are anything like me, it'll probably just sit on your shelf once you're done with it, and it'll be ~$100 spent on something that you won't even use. Eh, that's just me.

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.
