I am new here....
Hello. I found Bens book in my local Chapters and then looked up his site. The one portable I am most interested in making is a SNES one. Hence my first post is here!!
Anyways, I was wondering, what type of casings do you use? Does anyone have any custom casings? My friend suggested a modified SNES controller case and a Gameboy Original with the screen hole hollowed out for the 3 inch Cinivision screen. Yes I am going with the Cvision, rather than trying to hunt down the PSOne screen. I live in Canada, in a border city, and we rarely get the goods... Now that I think of it, Ill be lucky to find a Cinivison!!!
Anyways, just wanted to say hi, and see if anyone has some ideas for a case.

i know you're new. pleasure to meet you.
2. you could buy a case from ben if you like, or you could make your own.
good things to make a case out of are
a. project boxes from radioshack
b. pre-made cases from other products i.e. a harddrive case, or a
hollowed out gameboy.
c. take the conole itself and attach a screen/buttons onto it.
3. you can use a variety of different screens aslong as they take rgb inputs, basically any lcd screen sold at a videogame store made to be connected to a videogame system. aswell as some handheld tv's but theyre harder to hack. because some screens can plug directly into the ports on the back of your system.
and if you need ideas for cases, feel free to browse the forums to see what everyone else has. beware the tightwads, theyre not verry noob frendly. and are basically trolls.
watch one of them prove this point in a following post in this thread.

You should talk. You don't seem to read the forums. You just ask, and ask...I FINALLY REGISTERED. wrote:and if you need ideas for cases, feel free to browse the forums to see what everyone else has.
Not true. You are the one who isn't friendly- You make way too many topics. Most of which are asking for something that has already been answered. If you need to know something, you're supposed to look for the answer in the old posts before making a new one. Also, you don't seem to know the meaning of the term troll. Most of the people here are not trolls, but if you keep up the bad behaviour you just may be considered one yourself. We're not asking much, just for you to go by the rules that are standard on all internet forums.I FINALLY REGISTERED. wrote: beware the tightwads, theyre not verry noob frendly. and are basically trolls.
Nope. I just proved it was the other way around.I FINALLY REGISTERED. wrote:watch one of them prove this point in a following post in this thread.
Now anyway, back on topic....

You got SERVED!
I don't believe anyone here is noob-unfriendly, but rather we are intolerant of people who ask the same questions over and over, spam, or make countless threads about whatever ideas pop into their heads.
And a troll is someone who comes to a forum a couple times and then never returns...
But back on topic...
You could always build a case out of wood (I'm using aluminum myself.) Or you could use a RadioShack project case to hold it (They're easy to drill and can be sanded and painted to look smooth.)
Some people buy a bunch of switches and cram the whole thing, batteries, acreen and all, into the original game case. (But try holding an NES for an hour
ouch.
Or if you're lazy you could put the board, screen, and batteries the way you want them and wrap the whole thing in duct tape!

Well I didnt mean for people to start attacking each other. But I am glad to hear that this place isnt noob-unfriendly, because I have dealt with a lot of "community" forums that are VERY standoffish to people who dont know everything and anything about the topics at hand.
Progress Report - Shut down at my local radio shack today.... heres how it happened:
1 - 20 minutes before anyone would ask if i needed help
2 - I said I have a list, and before I could finish my sentence, he claims EVERYTHING in the store was in boxes and that he cant help me
3 - Apparently everthing thats labeled "Radio Shack" has to go because of the name change (All Canadian RS's are turning into "The Source"), even though there was a huge wall of batterys and chargers with the "R" logo on them.
4 - Couldnt find ANYTHING I needed. NO LCD mini tvs anywhere in the whole mall, nothing from the specs list out of the book, and certainly no mini SNES's.... Heck, not even anything that would make a suitable and sturdy casing!!!!!
But Im not giving up....... yet.

just about anything will work for a case. you could use a box, cut up some plastic into the right shape, vacuum form (a bit more advanced), frankenstein, wood, etc... portables of doom is very helpful for stuff like that http://doomportables.freeserverhost.net/

I remember that!
I think I was in the "n00b" stage at the time...
But anyways, you can always get the Intec screenpad. I think it takes either RGB or composite (probably composite), is 2.5", and costs less than $25 USD. (check a currency converter. PHPbb should add one someday.)
