schweet i found a bunch of 7805's

i got to thinking, i have a lot of these Zalman Fan mates from my old job and i took one apart and the main voltage regulator is a 7805....and it has a rheostat thingy too.....

huray for junk from the trash...

i'll try to find a link for you guys to buy em (if you want to buy new ones)

you know what other cheap common household things have 7805's ? i need one. i took apart an old computer power supply and didn't find any 7805s

a lot of things that take batteries. Since 1.2V batteries have become very common, they make many things to work with 1.2V, but need protection incase of 1.5V.

i found an ancient sound card that has what i think is a 7805, but it says "7805A." does the "A" make it something else or should i ignore it?

it may just be a revision...the A that is...which ever comany made it might have found a better way of making them and thats how they keep track of them

or they might have one which is designed to be used on pcbs and one which should be heavily heatsinked

um 7805 voltage regulators output 5volts and need a minnumum input of 7volts to funtion

and im pretty sure most comercal battery powered devises there days use switching regulators rather than linear ones because they are more efficient

for those that need one just go to radio shack and spend less than $2 on one and save yourself the headaches of serching through all your junk

well you could go to radio shack and see if they have the a regulator that will met your needs it should say on the box what it outputs

or you could always directley connect a battery of the appropriate size witch should not be a problem considering you need something between 7.2v and 9v

hokay... A couple questions.

I found a few 7805's on some old cable modem mobos, at least I THINK they're 7805's... They do all have "7805" printed on them...

I have about 5 of 'em, and I was planning on using one with my PSoneP.

Now, the PSone takes something like 7.5v, right? The screen I am using is 12V, and I thought these wold do the job. But if the PSone can't be run off of 5 volts, and that's what these put out, which one would I need? Or can the psone be run off of 5V?

Or maybe put an extra battery cell or something between the 5V output and the PSone mobo?

If these won't work, I'll post a representation of a couple other regulators I have laying around.

Any help is appreciated.

7805 output 5v, probably not enough for psone. what you probably need is a 7808, it ouputs 8v which would work with a psone

No, I salvaged them out of scrapped network hardware.

But I'm pretty sure you can buy them from Digikey...
