Okay next question. Does anyone know what all these fancy things on the boards do? Like the black cylindrical stickie-upie thing, or that round thing that looks like a tiny Advil. I'm at a loss as to how I mess with those, or if I even should. I have like 200 feet of phone cord that I can use to separate the boards for space, but I'm sure I can do more than that. Furthermore, how would I hook a screen up to this and power it by batteries? I assume someone has tried this or can help. At the very least point me in the right direction on the NET. If not I guess I'll be the 1st one to figure this out, trial and error style. And if I am I might as well make a webpage dictating my travels and/or utter success/failure.

OK. Umm, you're talking about capacitors, and they are kind of needed...
I wouldn't suggest messing with the stuff, because you obviously don't know much about electronics, and if you mess something up, you're screwed.
As for power, hook batteries to the screen and console, then connect the A/V inputs for the screen to the outs on the console.

Alright you got me, yeah I'm a total newbie when it comes to electronics. I'm good at taking stuff apart, but putting it back together . . . . uh . . . ANYWAY my initial plan was to not mess with the inner workings too much, just change some wire via solder (I'm pretty good at that) for fitting purposes. As for the LCD screen question I actually don't have one yet but hope to soon. Keepin' my toes crossed for some cash to come my way. I did however want to try and get this sucker running off batteries in the meantime but have no idea how to do that. Here's what I don't know:
- What to hook wires to for the batteries to work.
- How much juice should I run through this for max battery life.
- What to put in between the batteries and the part I hook it to, to limit the power.
- Even what kind of batteries. I was hoping to find some sort of rechargable alternative to regular batteries.
- Component names, but may have seen them and know what they are.
- Sadly, how my multimeter works. Used it once and forgot how to use it.
Alright that's a lot. I honestly want to just buy Ben's book, but college is sucking my funds dry fast, and I can't get it at this time. However I will as soon as it's viable as I would like to make other portables. This one is merely to get my feet wet in the meantime. Get all that learnin' out of the way for when I do the real deal. I have 6 NES's and 2 SNES's to experiment on. Thanks for the patients guys.
