Well, the game itself is neither the Genesis nor the SNES game. You can look at the font of the character names over the bar to see that. The SNES one was very careful to have the name over the life bar like the arcade, and used the same font. The Jakks one does not use the same font. The Genesis one was sloppy and didn't have the text over the life bar. For a review of the Jakks MK, look here. Enjoy!
(Now we all really need to figure out what they used...)

Interesting article, seems unlikely that it's a particular "console on a chip" hardware.

Yeah, it sounds like they went to a heck of a lot of work to get every little bit out of it... what I wanna know is why they left in Reptile when they were so worried about space that they thought about taking out one of the main 7 characters.

Because Reptile takes up next to no space, he's just a pallete hack of Scorpion/Subzero.

Which character was removed? Kano? (I ask him because he was removed from the Master System and GameBoy Versions)

No characters were removed, but some of the stuff was made crappier to save space.

Read the link ;)

I'm really surprised they didn't just use the Megadrive on a chip. Apparently they use:

Disney 5 in 1, Classic Pinball - built around SunPlus Ver 1.0 (unSP)
Namco Ms.Pac, Batman, - built around SunPlus Ver 2.0 (unSP)
Atari TV Games, Activision, Namco Pacman - built around Winbond Ver 1.0 (65816)
Spongebob SP - built around Winbond Ver 2.0 (65816)

Jakks has only made one GOAC game, and that's Madden... as far as we know. I sort of wonder if it isn't a port like Mortal Kombat though... seems like too much work but if they'd do it for MK they might for something else. But all of the other GOAC games were made by Sega Toys/Radica. Most of those games came out well before the Radica too though.
