Flashing red screen?

Well, I've put my NESp all together, the screen works, get a little "blip" from the speaker at power on, but all I get from the NES is a flashing red screen. Is this a bad connection error, or am I royally fookered?

It happens whether or not there is a cart in the system.

Try cleaning the cartridge slot and the connector on trhe cartridge and then try again. You probably ran into the "blinky screen" NES problem. It causes the NES to spontaneously resets itself when a problem arises. Use q-tips and rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts, or Radio$hack sells a cleaning pen for such purpouses.

Well, I tried cleaning, but to no avail. Also, all other accounts I have heard of the "blinkey screen" have been either a white or a blue screen. Mine's red.

It does sound like it's resetting itself over and over.

Hmmm, for it to constantly be resetting the reset button needs to be touching ground (I think). Also, I think it probably is your cart connector that's the problem. The color of the screen can really be anything your NES desires.

You could always try bypassing the lockout chip. That will stop the blinking, but if its not getting a good enough connection then the games still won't start...

Grrr, so close!

The carts are clean, the connectors are clean (as far as I can tell), but there did appear to be some water damage around the connector's connection (sic). I'm gonna pick me up a new 72 pin, and if that doesn't fix it, I'll find myself a new NES.

Oh, and where is said lockout chip?

I've had green and purple flashing, personally. Mostly green. It depends on the NES, I suppose. One flashes green, the other purple. ^^*

Mine is green... makes me wonder... why?

Test it out. See if the NES works properly. Connect it to your TV.
See if the screen works. If you have a PS1, press the volume buttons. If not, connect it to an RF-AV converter(VCR). If both work, then you have a bad connection. If it is resetting, make sure that nothing is bridged after the reset button.

Screen works properly, has contrast/volume sliders show up. It's not resetting, it's just giving me a flashing red screen with an accompanying "pop" through the speaker.

Except on when I plug Kirby in. Then it's a solid red screen

how high is the output on the 7805 ?
maybee you soldered the 7805 the wrong way, so there is no propper
power output to power up the NES.
Check the resetbutton for wright conection. Maybee soldered wrongway.

one of these two things was the problem with my noac.
no propper video / audio output. I rebuild the hole circuit from zero
and now it works.

Output from the 7805 is +5v. Nothing is soldered into the reset circuit, and all connections/solder spots on the MB have been cleaned (rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush work wonders ).

I'm thinking I've got a bad connector. Gonna hit up ebay for one and have 'em overnight it to me. I really hope this will fix it.

Err, do any retail stores carry new 72-pin connectors?

Nintendo sends free replacements(used to atleast). They are the same as the originals, but usually work better.
