Alright, First of all, Hello I've been browsing the forums for the last few years and have finally decided to join up and start my first mod.
Basically, I really really like the Dreamcast Dev. Kit, so much, that I'm basically going to try recreate something quite like it.
Effectively, Imagine a Dreamcast in a Micro ATX case, with a SD Card Reader, BBA (If I can get hold of one.) and a fabled disk tray drive.

I have a case that I'm going to use temporarily as I'm taking my time with this mod, money's tight.
Since I've noticed that people all over think that making a tray drive is impossible, it isn't. I have the relevant schematics, tools and a drive to start it off with, I even have video proof of a working one if you'd like to see it.

This will be a slow mod, but I'm stubborn and won't give up on it easily.

Ok, first update, had a thought where I'm now going to use a computers PSU so I can power a few extra fans and the drive bay.
I also built/prepared the drive so It's ready to take the GD-ROM spindle/laser.
Also picked up the case and PSU I'm going to be using till I have some money.

I do have a question already, however I'll ask it when I'm off my phone and back on a computer.

If people would like pictures of the equipment in It's current state, please just ask!

Right, so my question, I'm going to be putting a PSU into my mod, very normal PC PSU, Problem is, when I plug it into the wall, hopefully I don't also need to stick it into a motherboard in order for it to start working, or I reduce form factor in the case I'm using, rather massively.

Does anyone know how to get it working, without needing to hook it up to the cases power button and a PC Motherboard?

In case I can't find out how to hook up a PSU in the way I wanted, I've fashioned a very small case power button for the motherboard assuming I need to use one, currently I think I'm going to put in the motherboard until I can find out how to power the fans and disk drive with a PSU without the motherboard.

So, decided I'm going to take a gamble and open my Dreamcast up tomorrow and get the GD-Rom drive done.
Once the drive is done, the rest of the mod will be finished fairly soon, two to three weeks at an estimate. (Would only need to buy white paint and the extended cable.)

Pics will be available, and if anyone has any hints, I'd love to hear them before I start.

Mod's not dead or anything, slowly contemplating making a slot loader for it instead is all, and that requires money.

For the pc power supply, I'm assuming that you're an ATX power supply, not that I know it would be different for other form facto PSU's...... Anyways, you have to connect the green wire to any ground (black) wire.
