So I managed to build a functional NTSC SNES RGB cable by cannibalizing 3 Nintendo composite AV cables.

I disassembled the AV port plugs and managed to remove the pins without damaging them. Then I rearranged all of the pins I needed into one single av port plug; all placed in the correct positions.

I lopped the RCA plugs off of the ends and added 220uf caps to the red, green and blue lines and made sure all of my grounds were solid.

The Sony PVM-2530 is a professional production model CRT monitor that will accept an RGB signal through a 25 pin D-sub connector. The PVM has all kinds of options and is a wonderful CRT for classic systems.

I have discovered though that most people run the audio from the SNES to an external audio system even though the PVM has its own amp built-in.

The reason for this seems to be pin 2 on the D-sub. Pin 2 is a switch for audio. If it gets +5V the PVM will look for audio on pin 13. (mono PC audio I guess)

If it gets +0.4V or less (but not open) it will switch to the S-video input stereo audio jacks. And route that sound through the internal amplifier.

Here's the rub...

The SNES has a +5V at pin 10. Is there a way to step down the +5V to +0.4V?

I'm sure there is, but I need more info about pin 10 in order to choose a resistor. Apparently you can't just walk into Radio Shack and say you need a resistor that will go from 5V to 0.4V... they need some more info about the current.

Help is appreciated.

If anyone thinks a guide for my cable is welcome, I'd try to put it together.

0V is less than 0.4V, try a 1 to 10 kΩ resistor to ground.
