Support? No Sound.

Post by Sweebez »

I Recently put the SNES on full battery support, and hooked it up to the TV, but there was no sound. The video is fine, however. I skipped some unnessicary steps, such as the
controller step,
capacitor step,
power/reset button step,
and A/V plug step.

What happened? I'm using a Mini Snes with a standard Duracell 9V.

Thanks,

Sweebez

Maybe the SNES is having trouble drawing the power it needs to get the sound going... I don't know for sure, just a hypothesis. I'm mainly thinking of a computer with an insufficient power supply, with parts not turning on.

Ummm... you jacked up the sound chip...? Did you try plugging it into an AC adapter again (if that's still possible) and see if the problem exists with that? That'd tell you if it's a power issue or something else.

No, the AC adaptor is a last resort, I finally got all the wires hooked to the resistor...
-------------------
Well, here's everything that happened:

1. I did the steps previously mentioned, all in ben's book.

2. On AC POWER, it worked fine, like it always had.

3. After having a heckload of time trying to solder those 3-some wires to the regulator,
I hook up the system to the TV, with power coming off of a 9V, and No Sound At All.

Here's what I've got so far...

PROOF THAT THE VIDEO WORKS

BACK/TOP RUNNING OFF THE 9V

BACK/BOTTOM (SORRY ABOUT THE FLASH)

FRONT/BOTTOM (AGAIN, I CAN'T TURN FLASH OFF)

If you need other pictures to solve the problem, or any other information,
feel free to ask. It's so odd that the video works just fine, but the sound is completely dead.
I was even able to play it for half an hour or so too...

I'm sorry, man, but the thing is, if it is a power issue, you're pretty much stuck with trying the AC again. Maybe something is shorting? I can't really tell, but try tracing the sound lines and seeing if something is touching that shouldn't be...

I've actually been meaning to bring this up for a long time. You don't plug your system in while it's on the carpet, do you? I hope realize that the fibers of your carpet could bridge your connections, destroying vital parts. If you do plug it in while it is on the carpet, you are lucky that you haven't fried it (or you).

Hahaha, I didn't even think of that, but that'd be quite the interesting turn of events.

it was on the carpet solely for the picture; it's not where I play it. I put it in the SNES case it came with, mangled as it is.
What should I be looking for if i'm to find the problem?

Try running it off AAs. I think that it is solely a power problem, 9v batteries have very poor amperage.

Or you can try two 9V batteries in parallel (but they better be new ones, so they don't try to "charge" each other and blow up... and don't do it for very long even so)
