More 'Revolution' Speculation

It's not going to be running anything to do with linux, and it won't have an nvidia GPU in it, but aside from that you might be right. Microsoft have more spare change than the other two competitors, however, and I'm sure this will make a difference. To bicostp, first, why would Microsoft use Linux? Second, as Alchemist said, the 360 will have an ATI GPU, not Nvidia. But unless Sony and Nintendo get online in a big way (much bigger than they already are) I think Microsoft's Live service will be a large advantage to the console, especially if they manage to preserve backwards compatibility.

yeah, Xbox Live is huge and it's only getting bigger....it's definitely one of their biggest aspects, so if you want the best online experience, go for the next xbox

.....if only Nintendo would try to go as big in online gaming as Microsoft did

........of course, in the past few years Nintendo's been awfully stupid and have decided to basically shun online gaming away completely

....if their Revolution doesn't have the ability to play games online, then quite frankly I'll be, er, pissed

Well, at release online play wasn't an issue really, the market for it was tiny (and to be fair, still is in Europe - less than one in 10 Xbox owners and 1 in 40 PS2 owners iirc). Which is why the PS2 is also lacking in online play in comparison to the Xbox, it just hasn't been worth it yet. The next generation is going to be totally different, and I'd be extremely surprised to see any of the big 3 not pull off a decent online multiplayer experience.

all 4g consoles will have online play but the only issue is most internet connections will lag for the first few years seeing the games are so heavily renddered

I doubt most connections will lag with online play seeing as only player location data and similar information is being sent plus more than likely, a high compression algorithm would be developed to send it

The only games I like are Mario and Sonic games. All other games are boring (or dorky or bad).

I agree with Black Six, yes, Microsoft wouldn't use Linux, the X-Box 3/Next/Whatever PC will probably use Windows 2000 (to retain compatiblity with X-Box Games), Windows Xp or the Upcoming Windows Longhorn (which apparently sucks, as with Bill Gates the prototype crashed 8 times in 30 minutes

) Anyway, I want this to fall behind the others as Microsoft need to stop being so big-headed, and I think Nintendo deserve success this time, as it has been a while ever since, with Playstation 1/2 flooding the market, and the Genesis gave them a run for their money.

I was under the impression that it used a watered-down version of the 2000/NT kernel, but I could be wrong.

iirc the kernal was shrunk down to about 600k, with associated libraries (directx etc). It certainly isn't running anything like retail Win2k.

Nintendo says they are going to include wifi in rev. for online, which really doesn't make much sense, since you would have to buy a router

They're probably hoping that kids will say "if i get a router, I'll be able to play both DS and Rev. online", killing two birds with one stone. And to make things even funner, I'd laugh if they made something special, like a Nintendo Router that you'd need to buy to use with the DS/Rev./GBE.
