i should also note that my end goal here is eventually to get my hands on a slim PS3 that has a low enough firmware so that it can be jailbroken. so if anyone has such a PS3 and is in the market for one that has full native backwards compatibility, i would be willing to trade as well

Well actually now that they've obtained the private signing keys, the dongle method isn't necessary.

MAJOR update: It is possible to actually sign software ourselves (including update pups), meaning they can run on any retail/unmodified PS3, thus making the USB dongle exploit unnecessary.

Will update this thread when the information is released publicly/more is done with it. In general though, hacker-signed code and official sony-signed code will be viewed by all PS3s as the same, meaning Sony is pretty much copulate and the PS3 will be essentially open.

dude, would you accept some old consoles; I know you probably won't use them, but you could probably take em apart for parts to use on other projects

the ones I have are as follows:

Ps2 FAT (has swap magic dvd version along with the swap magic coder CD version, both 3.6); piece of plastic with the PlayStation Logo on it was taken off for easy access to use the swap magic disc

GameCube (has cords, and GameBoy advance attachment along with the starter disc)

Old Xbox (screws keeping the case are unscrewed, and it still works; I tried to mess with the Hard Drive on it, but other than that, it still works)

all of the consoles im offering have the cords, and controllers (gamecube has a turbo controller [or rapid fire, whatever you want to call it] )

and I got a BIG cache of ps2 games im willing to shelf out, along with a few 360 games (one of them was CoD : Modern Warfare 2 [didn't have the skills for it ] )

do we have an accord?

and im sorry if I sound desperate, but I have been looking High and Low for a good ps3, and most of them are either too high priced, or I get out bid on ebay by $150 of my intended bid budget, so please consider my offer
