With mini-itx? All processors are imbedded. And even then, the sockets would be different. You're stuck to the 8-1200mhz of mini-itx's.

... a laptop? Seriously, at the cost of all these parts, and the overall size you'd get, you'd be better off just getting a laptop or abandoning the idea of it being for recent 3D games. The mini-itx boards are not powerful. You couldn't stick a 5900 ultra on there since there's no AGP port. I don't think any of the mini-itx boards have a floppy cable (besides, you wouldn't need one for a portable). You've only got one or two IDE channels, so you can't have two cd drives and a hdd (and again I don't know why you'd want to have so many devices on a portable). A soundblaster would be unnecessary given the on-board audio, and graphics too if you don't mind the performance hit, although how much you'd get out of a PCI card anyway without causing major power headaches is debatable - even if you could get a 5900 in PCI (not to be confused with PCI-E, the new standard), you'd have serious issues powering it, since it uses up around 60 watts according to this article.

If you're looking for a small form factor computer in a box that you can take around with you, I'd advise ditching everything except the best mini-itx board you can afford, hdd, screen, and peripherals. Stick everything you need on the hdd (emulators, whatever), connect a cd-rom to install Win98, unconnect the cd-rom and put it all in the box. You'll end up with something probably bigger than a laptop, less powerful than the laptop you could have got for the same price, but you'll have made it yourself.

Actually, no, not all Mini-ITX boards have embedded processors, just the cheap ones. Here's one that takes a P4: http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info ... cts_id=236 And one that takes an Athlon: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/sk43g.html The ones that take processors are difficult to find by themselves.

Ah, here seems to be what you're looking for FDSMAN: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/sn41g2v3.html
SHARP 10.5" LCD Laptop Flat Screen
GameOptics LCD Display
Why two displays, or are you intending to use the GameOptics as a controller for the SHARP screen?

Alchemist is right though, either you need to trim down the specs and size, otherwise you're better off getting a laptop. Staples has a neat one that has a screen you can flip around so you can use it like a tablet, and has a pen to use it as a touchscreen.

Use the edit button instead of posting three times.

If you use a non-embedded CPU you will have to power it somehow. It's not going to last long on batteries. There is no mini-itx board for athlon. There are no boards which suit your needs for a gaming portable pc, either get a laptop or accept an embedded CPU.

Nice for you, but when I was 12 I didn't have either, and I doubt many around here had the money to make what you're proposing, even if they did have the skill. Don't get mad about people making assumptions.
