Making An N64 Portable?

Post by Shokwav »

Hi, I want to make a portable N64. I have little experience with soldering, but I have soldered before. Here's what I have:

console w/ wires
wire
soldering gun
solder
epoxy putty

I know I need stuff like a screen, batteries, etc. What do you guys reccomend? Is this case any good for an N64 project? Also, would this be a good screen to use? Also, what kind of batteries am I going to need? Like, perhaps an exact model? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm trying to grasp all this.

Thanks!

You'll also need a dremel, TI power regulators, some random caps and resistors, etc...
The ZN-45 is a good case for a starter N64p, but it's so big that you'll want a screen that bigger than 3.5".
In almost all of the other Zn portables a PSone (or two) screen is used.

You wont need any of the cables from that screen as you'll probably hardwire it in.
Heres a diagram for it:

As for the regulator and components it needs:
PTH08080WAZ works well (you can buy it from http://www.ti.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
2K resistor ( 1.8k and 2.2k also work )
100uf (any volt above 12) electrolytic capacitor.

thanks, i'll get to work on getting some of that. And that's a simple wiring diagram. I just found some wire I had laying around; is 1/64" pvc wire too thick?
