Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
Okay... question... do the Sonic games run fullspeed? and does Shenmue run fullspeed and does Crazy Taxi run full speed?
That's probably all I care about (I never really had a dreamcast)

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
I found my coder's cable and the SD card reader I'm likely to tear parts from (old USB 1.1), now I just need to find my Dreamcast and I'll see about building one of these SD card adapters.
Sonic was considered playable by the person in this video(around 6:40 mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gTpylJi9wk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;hackmodford wrote:Okay... question... do the Sonic games run fullspeed? and does Shenmue run fullspeed and does Crazy Taxi run full speed?

More details on this? All I found about defraging a PS2 was the HDD not ISOs (Dreamshell rips and loads to ISO files on the card).Raizer04 wrote:I guarantee you if someone was to do a triple defragmentation of the files that are being extracted it will boost the framerate problem. I had the same issue with the Knight Raizer when i was creating it. The software is called power defragmenter....
yes I kno the ps2 and the dreamcast is two different systems but its at least worth a try.

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
the transfer rate is less than half that of the GDROM. its going to be slower.Raizer04 wrote:Use power defragmenter!....what this software does is it runs a triple pass intensive defrag process on your hardrive/files. This enables the games to be read properly. I used this on open ps2 loader. Before I used it the games were choppy and skipping, afterwards the games played at normal framerate speed all-together.dragonhead wrote:i built the SD reader last night. im gonna say dont bother, barely anything even works and its slow as hell.

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
you really cant anymore unless you find it on ebay.HotDog-Cart wrote:Where can I buy a coders cable?
but, since you have to open the dreamcast anyway to remove 3 SMD capacitors, you may as well integrate the whole reader anyway.
also, please make your sig smaller. its annoyingly large and i think it may be slightly out of date too

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
I'd probably pick up the coders cable, to use it for its original purpose. Screw the SD reader lol. I gots a USB to serial adapter.
Also, sorry about my sig. I'll remove it promptly. Noone ever had issues with it before, but thatsd probably because they were all in awe over my 64DD.

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
Man I love Hackers.
They do everything better than the companies that built it some times.
Great find. Thanks for the post.
And couldn't you just dump your BIOS and somehow add a flash ROM to it with some code to tell it to boot from the SD card?
Of course, you need a LEET Programmer...

Why is that though.dragonhead wrote:the transfer rate is less than half that of the GDROM. its going to be slower.Raizer04 wrote:Use power defragmenter!....what this software does is it runs a triple pass intensive defrag process on your hardrive/files. What TYPE of SD Card are you using?
And if it is programmed terribly and using bad techniques, then it will run slow for sure.
IMAGES PLEASE!!!
Im excited for this Hack...

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
it doesnt matter. the serial port is slower than any SD card you can put in itHaunted360 wrote:Why is that though.dragonhead wrote:the transfer rate is less than half that of the GDROM. its going to be slower.Raizer04 wrote:Use power defragmenter!....what this software does is it runs a triple pass intensive defrag process on your hardrive/files. Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
What about going through the Modem / Extension port?
I know that is a PCI slot in disguise
Of course, I don't know how but it is another option.

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
no, its ISA. and only barely. you can pull about 850k out of it. its been done. the best option is going to be hardware emulation of the GDROM drive.Haunted360 wrote:What about going through the Modem / Extension port?

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
Oh, my mistake.
Thats what it said in Wikipedia or some Dreamcast dev site...
Anyway, ISA.
Invented by IBM and stands for Industry Standard Architecture by my memory. Correct me if I am wrong again
So adding the SD card or Hard Drive to the GD-ROM Drive...
This task reminds me of the idea for the PS1/one!
That would be a great hack to achieve, but who has the skill and knowledge on how to actually do it?

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
somehow i doubt that. it beyond the level of marshalls n64 cart. more along the lines of the gamecube DD that people were working on a while back. it was put on hiatus because of the sheer difficulty involved.Raizer04 wrote:You do haunted! ^5!!

Re: FINALLY! SD reader for dreamcast
Yea...
It would take a team of a programmer (which is ELITE), an Electrical Engineer and more helpful people to do it. Even so, there is no point because there not going to make a lot of money from it. They could make some, but not for all that hard work it is not worth it. Royalties yes, because they will be known for their skills but its all about the money for them.
