i think you and i have a very different definition of help.

see, carving something out of styrofoam and then charging for it seems to me like something that is of no help to anyone.
i'll back down though if anyone really feels the need to comission some styrofoam sculptures from a 12 year old though.

Just leave him alone! He's trying to help, and you just keep mocking him, obviously you dont need his help.
Hint: Ignore this thread! We don't need the majority of this forum telling him not to help. It takes one "thanks, but no thanks", and then voila, never come back to the thread! I know it sounds hard, but if we stick together, I think we just may be able to let this thread die, or we (by 'we' I mean you) can stop being dicks. Just look the other damned way.

If FDSMAN could do it good then that would be uber leet.

New moulds and stuff, could sell them for some money and that would be fair too.

FDSMAN, you should make a mould for something and then post a picture so people can see how good you can do it.

Now...wouldn't the process of vaccum-forming with a styrofoam mold be rather brutle on the mold? Possibly crushing it?

I'm not saying it's useless, I just didn't see how it fit in with the whole portablizing thing. But now I see its potential.You could build a charger cradle for a portable or a PDA. Styrofoam sculptures are not hard to carry around.

. Hmmm. Impact shock absorbers for hard drives or delecate parts? case fillers to make everythingmore solid? The possibilities are endless.

Try making a styrofoam "The Thinker".

Hey, with the right paint on it, styrofaom can look like stone...

In art we are doing basic figure drawing, after getting that down we are doing some final drawings, making a wire form of the figure, covering it in foam, then with that plaster-cloth-cast stuff, and spray painting them bronze.

And high-density foam doesnt crumble, you can cut and sand it without it breaking in pieces.

alright, if you guys really think that hiring somene to carves something out of styrofoam is helpful, then please, by all means, stop talking about how it might be helpful to somebody that doesn't seem to exist and buy something from the kid.

right, so now we're resorting to ad hominems. way cool.

anyway, i made a sarcastic comment about how fds tends to post off-the-wall, off-topic stuff. fds responded with a comment about how i was silencing his discourse and that he needs a forum to express his interest in sculpting styrofoam for money. i suggested he find a place where sculpting styrofoam is a little more germane to the topic of the forum. if you'll look back, those are the only two posts i've made directed at him.

now i hardly call two posts on a tiny internet forum a lot of "trouble" by any reasonable stretch of the word.
