Help with n64 portable pt 1

yes, the step down regulator is the thing from ti, but you might need more voltage regulators depending on what the voltage is on your battery (for example, if it is over 9v than you need the 7808 (not 1808) voltage regulator shown in the diagram, which will step the voltage down to 8v). You are correct in saying that the chip from ti is necessary either way.

If you can't tell us what voltage it is, then we can't be completely positive that it can be wired exactly like the diagram, unless one of us by chance has the same model. It is unlikely that it is over 12v. If it is over 9v, the only extra thing you need is the 7808 voltage regulator, and that is to keep your screen from frying (as shown in the diagram). I wouldn't worry about the capacity, because if it can run a portable dvd player for a decent amount of time, then it can run your portable n64 for a decent amount of time.

I would honestly recommend trying a smaller project first. N64's are fairly easy to break for people that aren't tech savvy.

I have one of those poloroid batteries for my portable, inside are two li ion batteries wired to a protection cicuit which is nice, the battery is 7.4 volts and 4200 Mah. Its the same one Marshallh used in his L64, and its a decent suitable battery

yours is a BT42? probably has the same battery, if not exactly the same, probably the same voltage at least.

Alright. So I got the dvd player and it's like 7.4w or something but how do I wire the batteries to include the protection circuit?

The little green plastic part located on the protection curciut with the 4 metal prongs has two halves each side has a plus and minus marked into the plastic, left side is power right side is charge. You can also remove the plastic thing to save space

I worded that pretty badly. What I meant was how do I wire the protection circuit to the rest of the stuff but Adum answered my question. The only materials I think I need now is the ps1 screen and some copper for the cooling.

I need to open up the N64.. :/ Any ideas? I heard somewhere to use a Bic pen but that doesn't seem to be working. Also pliers don't work because of the roundish tip of the screw. Unless anybody knows how to get a 4.5mm Gamebit somewhere in Brazil I need some makeshift ideas.

Well if you don't find a way just drill the bit in its center. It would soon just lose its head and you could just continue doing so till all of the bit's heads are gone and just slide the case off.

Did you try melting the pen? That worked really well for me. I tried the normal un-melted pen thing and gave up.
Just melt the pen until its soft, cram it in the hole, and let it harden then you have a homemade screw driver (the pen may need remelted after you remove a few screws)

OK. So it's been a while and after getting used to the new school and whatnot I think I'm ready to get back on track for my Portable N64. First off is to open it. I recently tried to open it with the suggestions above. I'm finding that melting the pen isn't working for me. Any other ideas besides getting a 4.5mm Gamebit. If nothing else works I guess I'l have a work buddy of my dads bring it over but I would really like to open it ASAP.
