Video playback issues with PSP.

I'm running 3.90 M33-3 on my PSP Phat, and I'm trying to upgrade to 5.50 M33. I've got the XGen release of it in the Game folder of my memory stick, and I've got the official 5.50 update in the same folder. I go to run it, but when it hits the "load all modules from UPDATER" step, it turns itself off. I've got a fully charged battery, I've tried it with the AC cord plugged in, but the same thing happens. What did I miss?

EDIT: I'm currently running 5.00 M33-4 CFW on this PSP Phat. I'm using DVD Decrypter to rip DVDs, then running them through PSP Video 9 to convert them to MP4 format. The .vob files from the DVDs are flawless, and play on any device that supports them. However, PSP Video 9 is turning them into crap. Audio is flawless, but if I get any video, it's a single frame that changes sporadically. I've been doing rips of my X-Files DVDs, and the oddest thing is that if I sit through the cold intro, the opening credit plays perfectly. Once the episode starts again, it's back to intermittent blank screen or stilled frame. I've tried every damn configuration in PSP Video 9, and they all end up the same. What other free programs are out there to convert video files?

I don't know if this will affect anything about the shutting off, but I thought the official update file was supposed to be on the root of your memory stick.

sorry i don't have a lot to add, but what programs are you running that plain gen 5.5 wouldn't work?

Games that require fw 6.20, I thought fw 5.XX had more features and all that than 4.XX

Well, I got 5.00 M33-4 working. I pretty much put the battery back into Pandora mode and used some MMS maker to do it, but it's there. I wanted something higher than 3.90 because it was recommended by someone that I go higher than that for playing PS1 games.

I've finally got it working, but the game in question, X-Files, has some weird graphical glitches. Looking at an item in inventory, it's fine. The regular game screen and any cut scenes are broken up into vertical bars that aren't displayed in order. I don't know if the PSP just can't handle that particular game, or if there's a fix I overlooked.

Try handbrake.
