Hey all.
im planning on making a wii laptop, the step im on is that i need to desolder the parts on the wii mobo.
BUT the problem is, when i put my desolder over the solder points, there not turning to liquid.
Its a 40w desolder iron with a pump, here it is .... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=96859" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've tried adding some new solder, since ive had the wii for about 3 years now and still its not turning to liquid.
Any suggesttions?
Thanks and please answer ASAP.

have you tested your desoldering iron to see if it melts solder properly?stanokaka wrote:the problem is, when i put my desolder over the solder points, there not turning to liquid.
also most newer solder compounds are lead free and require more heat (something like 10 to 20 degrees more, thats celcius) its not really that significant though.
i'd bet your iron isn't melting the solder because its not getting hot enough.
*edit*
another thought.
if you have an iron which melts the solder and the desoldering iron pump works, you could heat with the iron in one hand and use the pump with the other.

I like using solder braid better than a pump, but you still need to be able to melt it. How long are you holding the iron to the joints?
And nearly all of the new solder available in the uk (and most of the rest of europe) is lead free.
