Slowing down a fan... and other basics

Hi Everyone,

Long time lurker first time poster

I'm building a "laser light show thing" out of a cheap laser pointer. I have a warped clear plastic disk that I need to rotate so I attached it to an old case fan. The problem is the fan moves way too fast. Is there an easy/good way to slow it down? I tried using less power.. 3 AAA's was too fast .. 2 AAA's was better but still too fast and the fan does not move using only 1 AAA. Besides a hack saw, I'm not sure how to do 1 and 1/2 AAA's. Anyone got any ideas?

A potentiometer will be perfect for what you are doing. Look it up, they are plentiful at Radioshack.
