My grandfather modded a bus.....
......40 years ago to be exact.
In the 70s he bought a 1952 school bus and turned it into a very professional looking motorhome. In 91 my dad bought it off of him and ever since we have camped all over in it. Here is a video I took of it a week ago right before we left to go camping.

Wow, given its age, that thing is in terrific shape! Heck, even if you count out the age part, it's in great shape! Nothing like riding in a modded vehicle

That is so awesome! When you got to the inside, I went "wait, this was a school bus?"
But where does the toilet go to?

Re: My grandfather modded a bus.....
Looks pimpin'. What kind of engine does it have? What cool features does it have that might not have been apparent in the video? Have there been any improvements made to it, or is that pretty much the same as when your grandpa originally converted it? I've always thought it would be sweet to do something like that to a bus or old uhaul truck.
Why the two vehicles, do you not use the seats in the bus?

Re: My grandfather modded a bus.....
thanks for the comments guys.
the toilet goes to a holding tank, but rather than dump it at home we usually let it sneak out on the way home.
I'm not sure what engine it has, but it is not the original. When it was still in service, it was replaced with one from a 62 chevy.
Everything besides the outer paint job is the same from when my grandfather converted it, except for a new coat of white on the inside and the curtains.
the reason for driving separate is that the bus is quite old, and the camp ground we were going to was in a very very hilly area. There are hiking trails and caves we always go to down there, but each time we want to go to one we have to unhook the electric and go back up and down all the hills and it is very hard on the bus. So this year we just drove separate so the bus could be hooked up all the time and not give us a hassle every time we went to a different trail.

That looks very sweet compared to the one my brother left in our yard lol. His is modded into a motor home too, but it's not of too high quality on account of the fact that it was made for camping trips of binge drinking and debauchery.
