GameBoy DMG Overclock Questions

Post by agg23 »

Hello,
I am new to moding GameBoys but I've always wanted to try. So I have a few questions.

I would like to know what the maximum speed crystal oscillator I can put in my DMG? Also do I have to take the old crystal oscillator out to set it up with a overclocking switch or can I just solder a new crystal with switch to the old contacts?

I have a 49MHz crystal from a remote control. Would it be too fast for the GameBoy is would it be OK?

Thanks,

49 is a bit too much. Try anywhere from 8 to 12.

I got it running off of a 27MHz oscillator and it is so much more fun. Everything becomes much more challenging. I also discovered that it will run off of 3 AA lithium-ion batteries instead of 4.
