Before I start my snes hand held

I'm thinking of making a snes handheld. It's my first mod, so probably not a very good one to start with. I just want to get a basic idea of what I need before I start. I've already had a bit of a shop around for various cases, screens etc, so I think i've got a bit of an idea on where to start.

I've seen some snes clones knocking about. First off, are they any good? (fc twin, retro duo etc) I mean I can't imagine them being pixel-perfect to the original but I'm guessing their insides take up less room huh?

Would I notice on any of the mario games for instance?
