Re: Magnets in PSone portable
Actually, so long as you're using an LCD screen, the magnets won't have any effect at all.
I also doubt they'll do anything bad really. I've seen some portables done before that use magnets to hold the lids on them that worked out just fine. So you should be fine

You'll be fine as long as you don't use something like rare earth magnets.
If you're just using thin magnets like the ones refrigerator magnets, you should be fine.

Could they harm certain kinds of batteries?Life of Brian wrote:You can use rare earth magnets. Re: Magnets in PSone portable
As for the batteries, it may cause some EMI or EMP interference which may make the cells act up in a way I dont know about...
I dunno. Look it up

Disks are optical media - magnets wouldn't affect them.
Magnets - how do they work?

Re: Magnets in PSone portable
My bad - It is good to know these though...
This is the list of what is true...
- Hard drives, erasable Yes.
- Floppy Disks, erasable Yes.
- CD's, No (Safest Means of Storage, unless it gets scratched).
- Flashdrives, If they use a RAM-Type chip, then usually No. However, if you use the flashdrives with micro hard drives in it, then erasable yes.
Thanks

Re: Magnets in PSone portable
Even hard drives are really well shielded. You can't erase a hard drive with a magnet unless it's really strong. (i.e. if you get really close to the hard drive with a rare earth magnet, you might do some damage)
If the disk is spinning, you'd be more likely to damage the head of the hard drive than erase what's on the platters.
