I need help with my turntable cartridge

ok, so I was getting more pops and cracks than usual when listening to records, so I decided it would be best to align my cartridge, thinking that might be the problem. Now here is the thing. I have never aligned a cartridge, nor do I know how, but from what I understand, it is very hard to do. So Can anybody explain how to do it? I recently got a ton of albums from the goodwill and can't listen to them until I re-align my cartridge.

Personally the big things are Cartridge Alignment, Vertical Tracking Force, Anti Skate, and Cartridge/Tonearm compatibility.

I would clean your needle why your at it. Most pops and clicks are from dirty vinyl and needles.

Well if your playing used records without cleaning them then your needle will get dirty after one play. I clean all my needle every time i swap records. Cheap insurance to keep the vinyl lasting. All my used vinyl get cleaned via a Gem Dandy setup. Think pressure washing a record. Built one for $15 in parts.

do you have any links to how to make one? cleaning records is a female of the dog species to me and I don't even know of a safe way to clean my 78s
