quick troubleshooting question

Post by blaze3927 »

hooked up ti power to a cart relocated n64 using pth08080
ti power output is 3.2v
n64 led lights up
blank screen
tried bj's cleanings the works

everything is hooked up correctly and has been triple checked, jumper pack and game cart have been tested on a seperate console.

one odd thing is power to the red led is only 1.9v is it suppose to be 3.2?

The voltage drop across the LED should be around 2 volts because there is a resistor upstream of it. Follow the trace to the resistor and measure from there.

You are supplying the 12v input too right?

Have you done any other work on it, relocating card slot, etc?

(oh right. cart relocated. Ok well that's probably the problem. Did you test the relocation before you changed power supplies? did you break off a wire or something in the mean time?)

using a 9V 2.5A power supply
checked the cart slot just after i relocated but since i last checked i have desoldered ports, added batteries etc. all the wires are connected if worse comes to worse ill take apart a cartridge and check them by multimeter. one by one :\

okay tried again with 12V battery fully charged and confirmed to support upto 3A at 12v
red light comes on
pth08080 3.2v
televisions screen flickers like it does when you dont have a cart inserted

so few quick questions before i spend some time with a multimeter

does the red light come on even when a n64 is fried? yes/no
if the red light come son does this means that the n64 is recieving the right voltage?

Its your relocation job, Im almost sure of it :)

The LED just says that there is power going to the 3.3v line. It doesn't even really say if the voltage is right.

okay just checked every single conenction and confirmed that they are working
only thing that might be out of place is that
pin 13 and 38 aka +12v
are bridged to
14-39 the unconnected ones in the middle

that shouldnt be causing the problem though right?

That sounds normal for no game.

1st one was the furthest i got with a portable, everythin in the case and all buttons attatched, looked terrible but worked, in dremelling out a slot so i could access the expansion slot from the back i cut through half the cart slot accidentally.
2nd-cart slot relocated but refused to turn on, everything was checked, still no luck
3rd, 4th and 5th- epic fails at rcp relocation
6-10, expansion slot relocations
10 -15 just fried in the typical way a n64 does, get nearly everything hooked up, goto test....fried
16, freaking nintendo 2000 boards just lame

I will buy all of those boards from you for $20. Just to experiment, steal RAM, cart slots, etc.
