Solenoids and Relays

I've been trying not to post this but I'm out of options.

I've run in to a little issue where I have a 5 volt current that I need to fire a 12V+ Solenoid. It seems like it should be the most simple solution in the world, but I have no clue how to buy a relay. The relay I ended up purchasing http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-st ... LAY/1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Seemed like it would work. But unless I'm wiring something incorrectly it doesn't appear to work at all.

Now... I'm sending a really quick jolt through the solenoid, so I would think that it's not burning out the relay(I bought two and wired both of them the same way and received no success) and I know for a fact that the solenoid works.

If anyone could offer any advice please let me know.

You didn't melt the relay did you? Ive seen those relays, they are pretty flimsy.

Umm how about just use a mosftet transistor?

needs a protection diode if its an inductive load. like a solenoid.
