Post by techknott »

I'm probably way behind on this, but having been too busy lately, decided to catch up on a bit of MW2 only to be confronted with an update. It says it will remove the other os feature...WTF Sony!!!! Yeah I get that ur crap scared of any potential holes in it, BUT, I paid for it by buying the phat.. what do you lot think??

Yep, removing features 3.5 years after launch. Awesome. :wtf: By the end of the PS3's life cycle, it won't be able to play Blu-ray movies anymore.

10 years from now: *geezer voice* Back in mah day, we used to have games on a disk on our PS3 machines! But wif that spiffy new update, they made them disks just for show! Like those Ay Oh Ell disks, but you kids are to young to remember those....

god. whatever happened to the sony that made the ps2? they did that so well. but now it seems like they are turning into nintendo (seemingly purposefully making useless features and removing good ones)

from what I understand linux was used in a hypervisor exploit a while ago. I saw it on hackaday. maybe that's why they removed the feature.

The guy who cracked the PS3 did it using Linux as a backdoor into unlocking the system. Not surprising that they are getting rid of it. Honestly, does anyone here or anyone you know use the other OS feature?

A friend of mine bought a PS3 a couple of years back and one of his big things was that he was going to put Linux on it. Fast forward to today and he still hasn't done it. It is a feature that will be missed by very few people I suspect. Plus, you can choose not to download the update and still run Linux on your PS3. You just won't have access to the PSN anymore. So its not like it is impossible to run Linux on a PS3 now.
