Handbuilt input/output?

I've been working on my own handbuilt NESp, and I had a few ideas/questions.

Question 1:
I was wondering if it would be possible to install video in/out RCA's without much (or any) electronic modification?

Question 2:
Does the PSone screen power up when no cartridge in installed? If yes, GOOD. If no, where would THAT switch need to go?

I'm wanting to do a USB (found at joystiq.com) mod on the controller and use the unit as a third screen for my computer. It would have my iTunes on it, and the controller would scroll through songs and start/stop/repeat (etc).

1. Just solder RCA plugs onto the NES output along with the screen for outputs, another set leading to the screen for inputs. You may want to put an A/B switch between the signal sources (external vs. NES) so you don't have to worry about using 2 things at once.

2. Depends on how you have it wired. If the screen's power is connected to the NES power, then there is no problem because the NES will power up without a cartridge in it. You may want to put a 3-way switch on the main power leads to save battery power. (Screen Only / Off / NES)

Sorry if it's illegible, but I'll describe it as best I can:
The thick green wire is the positive lead from the battery. It leads to the switch, where it is either sent to the system board and the screen, or just the screen by itself.

The thin black wires which run between components represent the battery ground (negative) lead. All the battery negative leads are tied together and go directly to the batetry.

The thick red wire is the right channel audio. It goes to the audio output connector, then to the audio input connector, and then to the speakers or amplifier.

The thick grey line is the left audio channel. Same deal as the right channel.

The yellow line is the composite video signal wire. It goes through the video output, then through the video input (put an A/B switch here, I forgot to put it in. :oops:) then to the screen.

Oh, thank you very much. That's about what I was thinking. It's gonna take a little more to figure it out completely, but now I really know where to start :D
