dc arcade controller help

Post by D3MONOOB »

ok im at a cross roads with my dc project basically i wanted to have an arcadecontroller as the main inputbut agtec sticks are hardly available so i was wondering can i use this third party controller
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and then wire up these directly to the board
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SANWA-OBSF-30-ARC ... 5639f3e3f9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

do u think i should wire it with electric tape 1st to test it then solder it ive never done anything like this so im not sure which direction to go or there an easier way any help or suggestions are welcom

I would actually use this controller as the basehttp://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Fighterpa ... B00000K13E, it's pretty hackable. But your idea is sound it should work. And electrical tape might work for a test but it might not stick right. The biggest problem would be the analog stick. Hope this helps.

What is your primary motive here? save money, "do-it-yourself", or just have authentic Japanese parts?

If you want to save money, have you looked into an Agetec Dreamcast joystick? With enough time, you can snag one pretty cheap and they're one of the best off-the-shelf sticks of all time.

If you want to "do-it-yourself," maybe look into an X-Arcade. The X-Arcade has adapters for almost every system you could want (or just get the PS2 adapter and then buy PS2 adapters for all of your systems like I did) and it will not void your warranty to change out the parts.

If you have a PS2 stick sitting around, don't forget the Total Control Plus PS2->DC adapter. No lag and lets you use the whole back catalog of PS2 controllers.

If you want all-of-the-above, the easiest way is probably to solder to either side of the trace on the Dreamcast controller PCB and then use some wire crimpers and attach one of these on it (what are these called? I've used them a bunch, but I've never actually bought them) and just bolt it onto the joystick/buttons:

That way, if you decide you don't want to use it for DC anymore, you can just unscrew the DC harness and put in whatever you want.

edit:

or use these: Image

well, if you're trying to make a joystick portable, why not use the Agetec stick and build the screen into it? There's TONS of room in that case. Alternatively, you could take all of the pre-wired buttons and just put it into the case you want rather than all of the tedious soldering and board trimming required to do it yourself.

yes ive looked into this but it works out cheaper to just build a stick from a third party controller 4 quid the six buttons i got for 2 quid each and stick for a tenner all official arcade parts the agtec stick is more expensive couldnt find 1 for under 25
