DIY Console to PC Controller Adapter

A long (long) time ago I used to build my own adapters to connect my console controllers (GENESIS ,SNES and PSone) to my PC.
This was done via the all mighty Parallel Port... which is pretty much dead by now.

For some time, then, I used a trusty Radio Shack Play Station (one and two) to USB adapter, and it worked wonders. However it died on me a couple of weeks ago.

So, an idea i got was to try and build a DIY console controller to USB adapter, but i don't really know what the simplest solution might be.

Does anyone know what to expect if I were to build a DB25 (Parallel Port) adapter and then chain-linking it with a Parallel to USB cable??? any driver problems I might find?

I'd like to use them in games and also as controller for a couple of Digital Audio Workstations, and play a little bit...

Any info would be nice, even a link to some site or something

Has anyone tried using that usb to parallel port?

Will be just like a native parallel port?
