Gamecube joysticks in Nintendo 64 Controllers

To start off, yes, I did read the Reference Page on this, but I have a few issues. I'm such a newbie to this stuff that I only pretty much know how to open the controller. I'm clueless about any stuff other than that. I AM working on getting a 3rd party N64 controller. BUt my main question is can you use a 3rd party Gamecube controller for the joystick replacing? Also, I need to be tought THROUGHLY how to make the replacement. I'm a dumbo. An electrical idiot. Besides that, would it be possible to gut the 3rd party N64 controller and put it in one of my near useless 1st party ones? The case is fine, but the joystick is the reason why I'm trying to do this replacement. Then it would play cool AND look cool. I really hope someone can help me.

Ok thanks! THe problem now is I don't know just how to do it... I have no experience with wiring electric stuff either, so could you help me with that too?

When you open up the n64 controller, take or draw a picture of the wiring and wire the gamecube one the same way

Really though, would pulling that gray bundled wire (it's in a picture) out of the main board damage anything?

Don't rip it desolder it

With a desoldering iron.

Personally I think that desoldering irons are a bit dangerous seeing as the vaccuum thing can rip out annular rings.....I use a regular iron and solder wick (desolder braid)

All professionals use de-soldering irons. You have to know how to use them , proper heat, etc.

Well than. I'm definitely no professional! I don't know how to use them. I don't know the proper temperature either. I don't even know what use it would have. Like I said earlier, I'm an ABSOLUTE BEGINNER.

I use a 25watt weller and solder wick....I would suggest it. I have one of those little vacuum thingies too but It doesn't work very well with smaller connections. But listen to hailrazer because he's hailrazer.

I'm not talking about a crappy de-solder pump, but a real de-solder iron.

That being said I used de-solder braid for the first 15 years of my pathetic electronic life. LOL

Once I bought a de-solder station I got spoiled.
