how about a GPU overclock?? (not CPU)

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

how about a GPU overclock?? (not CPU)

Post by Surman01 »

Hello everyone.

I did the OC mod to my N64 succesfully, and now Perfect Dark runs more fast, but I don't want more speed, I want more framerate!
The game still going slow (low framerate) when enemies appear exactly like before.
Doing CPU OC you don't get more in-game framerate, becouse this is a GPU work.

Anyone know how to do a GPU OC?
Thanks!!

sebi1000 from http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=1819" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; says
I?ve overclocked the GPU and Memory and it works without any problems.
The clock generator MX8350 generates the signal for the two parts.
So if you change part x1 with a bigger one, the GPU and Memory would be overclocked.
Original is 14,7MHz and I tested 15,36MHz without problems, but 16MHz makes screen errors.
Part x2 is for changing NTSC, PAL or PAL-M.
Sorry for bad english.
I'm guessing he's referring to the oscillator on the board. I can't say for sure if this is valid information or not though.

Seems like it might work. Here you are changing the clock rate, not the clock multiplier. This will probably overclock the CPU and RDP at the same time, pretty sure they run on the same clock signal. The guy only got a 5% overclock though. Might not be significant.

The whole system will overclock - audio will be higher pitched and timers will be faster. Also as that guy noticed, video timing is affected. Past a certain point the video signal won't sync to a TV.

So does it give you any framerate "increase"? No. Just speeds up the whole mess. You get no advantage.

is there a way to overclock the CPU but not affect the timing of games like goldeneye?
