officially, only the sony drive that comes with ffxi will work. unofficially, almost any hd will fit in there. the thing is you wont be able to use the browser to store saves unless you have a dms chip and a copy of the sony hdd setup cd. i have a pos maxtor 40gig in my ps2 and it works like a charm especially with my exploit save, but anyway i'm gonna stop talking about this cause i wouldnt want to break the rules.vb_master wrote:Should I try to pick up a harddrive? the dms chip is not necessary I see you’ve need reading over at formally ps2owns there stuff are extremely censored to benefit there sponsors you get less than half the information of what’s out there
you can manually patch the disks quite easily to use any hdd with official games there is also homebrew software for backing up gamesaves to the hdd if you would want to use that instead
also you can get hd loader witch can run off the memory card if you want to play any game off the hdd witch is very nice you can also skin the menus in hd loader also there are patches for the orginal hd loader that make it work better than the latest verson of hd advance
btw you don’t need a modchip for the gamecube to run dvd-rs ether witch they wont tell you over there

and seccond your not talking about roms or any thing like that...
oh and maxtor hard drives are used for final fantasy and the PS2 linux pack so odds are, if any thing is going to work the maxtors sould be a little easier (atleast in ones mind)

edit: btw socom 2 can configure the network settings just fine

Any game that has the Network Adapter logo on the back should have the Sony config tool that comes with new adapters. Which is good cuz I bought an SCPH-70000 and it didn't come with the disc (which bugged the hell out of me for awhile, until I realized the only game I had network support for was the Japanese Karaoke Revolution discs, which did have the drivers). Japanese games really suck to deal with though cuz some of them say "Network Capable" but they use some obscure dial-up modem addon for the PS2 (of which there were tons here cuz broadband didn't catch on as quick as in the USA)
