alright guys i just got my new soldering iron today, its a 25 watt pencil tip. and my question/problem is..the front part of my soldering iron is like turning brown and in one part its black like its burnt or something, whats wrong or what happend and what can i do to prevent these everywhere else?
p.s. i also have this kester self cleaning acid paste flux. idk what its for i just found it

If it's the metal part, it's just oxidizing; that's normal.

If you put a little bit of solder on the tip then wipe it off on a wet sponge quickly that won't happen too often. That brownish stuff will happen when your soldering iron is new and when it needs to be wiped off.
EDIT: Sorry, just realized you were talking about the part before the tip. There's nothing you can do about that, it'll just oxidize and look bad. It's how you know someone actually uses their soldering iron.
