Recommend some random components?

Post by Kyosho »

I'm placing a Mouser order and to be honest I always feel a bit silly buying say, a single component for 50 cents or something. Rather than do that, I'm going to buy some other stuff. I don't want to spend a whole lot though. Nothing too expensive. I just want to get some random stuff that it'd be nice to have on hand because I probably won't have much money in the future.

What I've added so far: Some 7812s, 7808s, and some 7805s. Why? Because I'm sure I'll find a use for them at some point.

What else should I get? Some switches? I already have a million tact switches. But I suppose I could do with some others types (be specific on what type, if you think so). Already have some female headphone jacks. Hmm. What about power jacks, male and female? Any recommendations on sizes or anything? Hmm. What else?

Has any cool new parts come to the forum's attention recently (like, the last year or so) that I might not know about? I haven't been around much. Even stuff that might not be on Mouser. I might buy some stuff from elsewhere as well.

Sorry this is so random. If the mods feel this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it. I wasn't sure where to put it.

several things:
slide switches.
submini slide switches
micro slide switches
big rocker switches, etc. (dpst, spdt, etc)

also, buy some resistor packs, and capacitor packs and some lm317T's or pth80808's or gk1yc's. (for 3.3v).

also, 32 awg is better than 30awg. :P

A Flux pen!
Shrink wrap tube in multiclolors!
A rainbow of LEDs (Infrared? Ultraviolet!?! )
Standard resistor/capcitor values!
Trim pots!
5V latching relay.
595 style shift registers (TPIC595)
Zener diodes
Mosfets, N and P chan
BJTs, NPN and PNP

Also want to point out that pth08080s cost like $10 each which is why I complain about people wasting them

so then buy these instead. much simpler, and smaller. however, the have lower mA rating, but for most stuff, they work just fine.

Well for N64 portables those suck. But yeah. That's basically my point. 317's are good for everything else.
