They actually changed that last year, the RROD and e74 (3 and 1 light) are both covered by a 3 year warranty.

dont do that to the poor xbox! just take it apart, heatgun it, and put some new thermal paste on the cpu & gpu. nut for the love of god dont do the towel trick :facepalm:

Previously, I had a 360 that would display messed up graphics, it never displayed the RROD or e74 though. It still had a warranty sticker and another year and a half on the extended warranty, so I sent it in to M$ saying it gave me the 3 light error (obviously lying). They sent it back repaired as well as with a new disc drive in it. So if your box is malfunctioning slightly, you might as well send it in and see what they do with it.

If you end up opening the case yourself though, you're best off using a case tool and doing your best to make it look like you didn't open it. The hair dryer trick still works on the new style of warranty stickers as well, you just need to be more careful. If it is past the extended warranty and you don't give a darn anymore, I'd be willing to take a good warranty sticker off your hands ;)
