How much do you think...
How much do you think I will get if I were to make a ps1 portable (using Ben Heck's book) and sell it, you see I want to start off with a portable ps1 because I assume it would be quite cheap to make and it would be great practice for making a portable ps2, which is the reason I got interested in learning to make portables. So my main question really is, would I be able to sell a portable ps1 for as much as it would cost to make a portable ps2?

Depends on how nice it looks.
An average PS1 portable should sell for around $400 or so. A great looking one could sell for $550-$650. A bad one would have trouble making $200.

And how much does the average portable ps2 cost to make?
Re: How much do you think...
I looked into this myself, and concluded I did'nt have the money...
the cost of the batteries in a ps2 portable would be a lot more, and your average ps2 costs about $80 or so( with controllers and adaptors).
a ps1/zenith screen is about $40, so you'd be looking at near enough $200 after all the elctrical supplies thrown as well.
have fun!!

I've managed to get all the necessary electronics for a portable PS1 for around £30 (I'm English, so sue me). Managed by getting a few things from Ebay and making do. I've had a bit of luck that the portable DVD player I bought (for a very low cost) has a screen that can read the PS1 output, and a rechargeable battery pack that can last for over 6 hours running the PS1 itself (excluding the screen). I suppose a PS2 would be more expensive, but if you're at least somewhat savvy with electronics, you should be able to make do with things that aren't neccessarily designed for what you want. I wouldn't recommend it if you have the spare cash though, because it will certainly complicate the assembly.
Just throwing it out there that it is possible to get the electronics relatively cheaply if you're prepared to wait a while for the right opportunity.
