Wireless Dreamcast Controller. What would I need?

Post by gamemasterful »

I'm wanting to make a wireless dreamcast controller. I read somewhere the controller requires 5v. So that should be attainable with 4 AAs or AAAs. Easily stuffed inside the grips. And I'll need a transmitter/reciever set and a chip of some sort I'm guessing as well? But this would be the first time I've done something like this, and dunno where to start on how to transmit/send/receive data. I've love some help on getting started, some resources for this type of thing.

I've searched the web for a wireless dreamcast controller and found very little besides a PS2 controller converter and a IR wireless controller that according to most reviews blows. To my searching abilities, no one has attempted/succeeded yet at making one.

Edit: This site http://mc.pp.se/dc/controller.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; details very nicely and specifically how the dreamcast controller sends and receives data. So I think it would be the best starting place for this project. Any help sending/receiving these very specific signals?

Wireless DC controllers exist. Rarely seen on Ebay, they are by some company called Doc's. They look a little weird and only accept memory cards at the IR base that plugs into the DC's controller ports. I consider myself a DC Fanboy and am currently trying to stuff the Doc's controller into a Sega DC controller. Not sure what to do about solving the lack of a VMU slot in the controller itself. As you know, some games require it.
