I have a realy strange THING i want to do...
yeah so allreddy im thinking this is stupid and every thing but copulate it, here goes... I Want to put a hardrive (laptop drive) on a nintendo DS...
the fuction of the laptop drive?
I hope maby i can use the drive on the Movie player.
my stupid thoughts:
can the same Compact flash to IDE converters be reversed?
can i at least beable to test this idea out on a usb compact flash adapter?
my hopful resault!
in the end i would try and intergrate the hard drive in to a modded DS case (there would ither be no GBA cart slot or a big switch) The hardrive would hold tons of music movies and NES games (huray for nes) pictures too.. any way what do you think? sugestions (constructive please)

That'd be pretty cool, it'd eliminate the size issue of NES roms and whatnot, since HDDs load a lot faster than CF.

I think something more realistic would be a movie player with a faster memory card.

its not that strange of an idea but you would have to know a lot to make an hdd interfase for the DS I know of a guy that might be able to pull it off but I dont think he would help proboley the way to do it is to somehow come up with a hdd interfase for the gba and use a pasme
edit:I see you realy want a way to use it for the gba so the pasme would not be nessasery

The Compact Flash to IDE converters can be reversed, or you can buy a IDE to CF converter (mainly used for embedded systems). However, the harddrive may not be seen by the adapter, as CF has extra circuitry to identify itself from what I understand. The question is whether or not the CF to GBA adapter you're using needs that extra circuitry, and if so, can it be bypassed by having a CF plugged in (but not able to be read from/written to) at the same time.can the same Compact flash to IDE converters be reversed?

Using the DS passme would be cool, so you can use the touch screen to scroll through songs/movies/programs/etc.cennar wrote:well i dont realy care about using all the DS to do it the gba parts just fine but yeah imagine 3d stareo sound colection of like all your mp3s

Right. What tom61 said. Yes, you can reverse them electrically, but they won't be seen as a CF card most likely. CF cards have the drive controller built-in, while hard drives might not send the data required for compatibility. You'd probably need an HD->CF adapter card in the CF slot of the adapter to be recognized as CF.

there, thats a harddrive in a compact flash card...
also compact flash cards with chips in them are going to be faster than any laptop drive

Yeah that sounds like a neat idea I would do it with a gba (i have an extra one that i been waiting to do something with) but maybe you could do it with a pda hdd and then you could make it smaller but then it wouldnt have as much storage space. heres a pretty small one but its only 2 gigs you might want more space.
