Some Battery Questions

So after seeing far too many expensive, terrible sounding portable iPod stereo systems around, I've decided that I want to make my own out of a medium sized set of 2.1 speakers I have. My friend and I worked our way through a very successful 360 laptop project (still needs a final paint job before it's in the "News" sections ) so the wiring and casing doesn't seem too intimidating to me. The part I'm a little caught up on is how to make the system portable, ie. batteries. I have no idea how to tell what kind, size, or quantity of batteries I would need, or if it would be possible at all.

Both the speakers and the iPod dock I plan on using are built to plug directly into standard outlets, if that's any help. Above the power socket on the speakers it says "AC 120V 60Hz". I know this means 'plug me into the wall', but that's about it. Could anyone help me out?

Alright, well I finally got the damned thing apart and got to what appears to be the spec sheet of the system. However, I am shaky on whether or not I am interpreting the cryptic destructions correctly.

So here's what I'm seeing:

Input: AC 120V on blue and brown wire (circa June 1999? )
115 Degrees Celcius cut off
Output: 9V .5Amps over red and yellow wire, 15V 1.5Amps over white and grey wire.

Am I reading this correctly? Also, are these voltages and amps possible via batteries so I can get rid of this giant donut?
