replacement CPU bracket for XBOX

Post by Harlequin »

Buddy was complaining that his xbox fan was noisy. I figured I'd pop it open and blow it out with some air. Pop open and low and behold the used xbox he bought had a broken CPU clip. It wouldn't upset me so much if it wasn't for the fact that the shop he bought the used xbox from had unboxed it first to clean it out... cpu clips don't snap on their own.....

Tried looking on the interweb to find a replacement or find a suitable replacement. No one seems to know. I have seen a few mod jobs where the CPU heatsink has been replaced and a new one put in its place.. any suggestions would be welcome. At this point I want to replace it as cheap as possible because he wasn't expecting to be out money on the old box and I don't want to tell him to buy a new one.

Oh and if anyone can recommend some thermal epoxy by product name that would be decent to. I realize I can google it but I trust you guys more than "anonymous" on a website.

why dont you just buy a broken xbox for parts on ebay or something, they usually run pretty cheap

with the cost of shipping etc it would probably be around the same price just to get a new used xbox..

most of the bids I saw were into the $20 range and shipping was $15. Used xbox in local paper is around $30..

I would like a picture of what you need, because I have lots of xbox parts, and I could just put the clip you need in an envelope and send it to you. Is it the actual bracket that attaches to the motherboard, or just the clip that holds the CPU heatsink on?
