Power to amp

I scored an old set of powered computer speakers for an N64 project, but I'm not sure if the setup is suitable. It seems the amp was designed to live on 12 volts AC. Can I just give it DC, or do I need to look for a different amp?

If it actually takes 12VAC I would expect it to get rectified and regulated inside, you cant really run an audio amp directly from AC. If it takes 12v from a black wall adapter brick, then it might already be dc anyways...

Wont hurt to try to put DC into it.

Instead of a black brick wall adapter, it uses an internal transformer which is labeled Input 120V AC, Output 12V AC, and in fact the circuit board is labeled AC where the wires from the transformer are soldered on. Do I need to find where the AC is rectified to DC and feed DC power in after the rectifier, or can I just give it DC where 12AC normally goes in? Thanks.


Edit: Nevermind. I -knew- I should have paid more attention in high school technology class! Turns out those neat looking black "resistors" are diodes, arranged in such a way as to create a gate rectifier. I'll just desolder them and the transformer bit out of the way and run 12V DC in their place. Thanks! Now I just need to find a suitable screen and a case...
