PSOne S-Video problem

Hi all, this is my first post here. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I desperately need help with my PSOne.

I have a PAL PSOne unit, model SCPH-102. A few years ago, I plugged it into a faulty PAL-to-NTSC converter and blew out something. After the said incident, the picture on the screen is dark, wavy and occasionally rolls vertically.

After sitting on it until last year, I decided to get it repaired. The repair cost me about US$25 or so. The technician said it was a blown GPU. I was happy that it was working again and went on using it merrily.

Fast forward to last week. My satellite provider started offering HDTV and after a change of decoders, I found that my new decoder doesn't have a S-Video output. So I moved the decoder over to another TV and decided that I want my PSOne to use the now vacated S-Video connection (prior to this it was on a composite to RF converter). However, when I bought the new cable and plugged it in, I found that the problem that was plaguing me on composite now plagues the S-Video output of my PSOne. The cable appears to be fine, it works properly when plugged into my NTSC PS2 unit.

Which brings me to my question: what is wrong with my PSOne? Is there a faulty component? Which? Did the repair guy just swapped some parts around? I am reluctant to send it back to that store for another service. If I can figure out which part is faulty, I could get my dad, who is a technician but doesn't know the inner workings of a PSOne, to just replace the burnt component.

Yeah. Problem is, a new PSOne over here in Malaysia still costs at least twice as much, and my current PSOne is of nostalgic value to me. Of course, I could always just replace the circuit board and use back the old case, but then if I do that I might as well take a crack at trying to repair the board one last time before going the brain transplant route.

Mhm, well I have my doubts about the guy actually swapping the GPU. Where would he get the new one?
