PS3 Super Slim Build Log

Post by cnc_machine_student »

Hi every one,

My name is Max, I am a student at DeAnza in San Jose, CA. I am working toward a degree in CNC Machining. I have been studying for about 3 months now, and I think I am ready for my first big project.

I ran across Ben's PS3 Portable a little while ago and it was very interesting. For the past few days I was reading the comments that people wrote about the Ben's PS3 Portable and listened what people thought about it.

Here is a list of improvements people wanted to see ( gathered from the comments on different tech news sites...)

Design:
1080p Screen
Less Screen Bazel
Less Weight
More Slim

Functionality:
HDMI/HD Audio out ( so it can be used as a regular ps3 when hooked up to a hd tv)
Multiple out put options ( for older tv's)
keyboard and mouse pad
fix weak fiwi signal ( wifi amp?)
speakers ( good sound quality )

This is just a little that I saw in the comments from people. If you have suggestion feel free to post.

I am currently doing lots of research on this, really want to build this thing.

I am thinking of starting with this...

I cant seem to find a screen smaller then 21.5 thats 1080p. This would make that laptop about 19 inch long and 13 inch wide.

Any seen any smaller 1080p screens that support HDMI?

Suggestions, Comments, Anything Welcome, I want to hear what you want to see on a PS3 P.

The downside to that screen (besides the price) is the 16ms response time. I personally would prefer a 720p screen that doesn't ghost to a 1080p that does, especially if it is cheaper.

I have use that screen and controller before in a DIY projector and as a monitor and there isn't any ghosting.
And I have used monitors with 4ms response times that had terrible ghosting.
Numbers don't mean a thing in the LCD Industry. Actual performance verified by our own eyes are what matters.

Thanks for the suggestion on that screen, the size is perfect, I am just wondering about its performance and durability.

I am wondering how much average frames per seccond does a PS3 put out @1080p...

I have never owned a game console or a PS3, sorry if I ask questions that would seem obvious... ( PC gamer... )

It varies by game. 60fps is the top end, but a lot of games are locked to 30fps.

1080 and 720 doesn't matter for a small screen...

Common misconception.

It doesn't matter much for a small screen if you are sitting far away from it. But on a PC screen where you are sitting less than 2 feet away , yes it does matter and yes you can see the difference especially with text.

On 15.4" you wont see the difference, most HD monitors are 22" or bigger, and you'll notice it then... But for 15"..

Sorry but you're wrong. I have used these 15.4" Wuxga monitors for over 5 years. And the 1080p on it looks much better than 720p on Lcd T.V's of the same size which I've used. And it looks a LOT better than 1024x768 15" monitors. The size of the monitor is not the determining factor. How far away from it is the determining factor.

I agree with you, I have an Asus g51j 15.4 laptop with 1080p and it looks great.

Now, I am still on a mission to find a cheaper 15.4 1080p screen.

Also this is going to be a PS3 LAPTOP, so why are we talking about sitting far away from it?

Hmm, I was really sure about it. But well, I must have mistaken, I'm sorry.
