splitting guitar signal

Post by ghosstt »

so I want to run my guitar through 2 amps at once, but don't feel like paying $50 for an A/B splitter. Is it as easy as I think to make one of these? Just 3 input jacks, 2 2 stage buttons, and a case right? Route it from input --> button 1 --> output 1 , and input --> button 2 --> output 2. That way, when button 1 is pressed, it runs the signal to output 1, which is amp 1, and if two is pressed, it will go to output 2, if both are pressed, it will go to both amps. Is that right, or am I just being naive?

Yeah that should work. The only thing I question is going to two amps at the same time... It would probably just make the signal weaker...

You might need a small preamp before the switches to make sure the signal's strong enough.

Do pickups produce line-level or microphone-level signals? :?

I'm pretty sure its line-level.

Why not simply use Y cables?

This way allows me to choose between amps, or mix them.
